Family Support Committee Minimize

The Family Support Committee creates a positive partnership with families in the program. Each has a Family Partner who serves as the family’s liaison with Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity, providing a support system that helps to guarantee success.

Committee members ensure that selected applicants understand Habitat’s methods and expectations. Through regular contact with candidates, they ensure that each is progressing well through their partnership process. Family Partners help schedule and record the “sweat equity” of their partner family. The committee works in partnership with other community organizations to provide training in such topics as credit counseling, home maintenance and repair, energy conservation, etc.

The Family Support Committee meets for one hour each month to review each Family’s progress in the program, identify problems and work together to determine solutions. Each committee meeting is a celebration of the progress made by our Families toward their goals.

"I have partnered with four delightful families.  Each family has enriched my understanding of life in a number of ways.  The adventure of working with a family through the various stage of preliminary {sweat equity} hours up to homeownership is unsurpassed.  The greatest joy, of course, is seeing their home finished, dedicated and occupied by the family who has worked so hard to earn their home.  Working with volunteers on the Family Support Committee has also been enriching...I have met and worked with the nicest people.  It is gratifying to learn that so many people in the community are willing to step up and help others."                                                                         - Carol Mendiola, Family Partner
