Meet Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity.

December 2018

Thank You, Helen

After 15 years Helen Shepherd is “retiring” as a Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity volunteer. Think about that, fifteen years. In that time Helen has given 2676 hours in support of our mission. And that’s just the hours that were captured for our records.

She has built homes, greeted volunteers as a Site Host, been a member of the Family Support Committee, tracked Partnership Hours, and been a Family Partner. Not just a Family Partner, Helen has been a “Full Service” Family Partner with SIX families. That means she has befriended, taught, helped, and cajoled six families through a homeownership process that typically requires a commitment of 1.5 to 3 years.

Her true concern for "her families" has extended well beyond the day their home was dedicated as she made herself available when they confronted the many realities of owning their own home.

In addition to her numerous Habitat duties, Helen has also taught many of us in the office about the science of composting and the art of raising chickens. A “Full Service” volunteer, indeed.

There is really no way to adequately express our gratitude for Helen’s long-term commitment to Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity and the families we serve. We appreciate every hour (recorded or not) that Helen Shepherd has so generously donated to our organization and our community.
